Medical Foundation Suppports Innovative Ethics in Medicine Project

The Medical Foundation has announced its support for Professor Ian Kerridge's project, Restoring value(s) to medicine: An examination of the scientific and ethical foundations of medicine.

A total of $402,665 over 3 years was awarded to investigate a radical new approach to medical education, a form of Values-based medicine with the aim to remind medical practitioners and trainees of the huge societal commitment to health care – financial, emotional and political.

The project will begin by looking at cardiovascular science and disease as the cardiovascular system covers many other bodily systems and diseases, and illustrates many of the problems highlighted by the project.

This neglected but important aspect of medicine will present the opportunity for the Faculty of Medicine to integrate new practices into its curriculum.
